Fix Windows Security Certificate Warnings

Seeing a security error message when you visit a client or other website and if you are using Windows and Internet Explorer then the browsers generate this error and when it attempts to open a website that has problematic security certificate you get the certificate is outdated or was issued by an entity that Internet Explorer does not support. It doesn’t matter what was the case, if you know the website is trustworthy, then you can pass the certificate error.

Mainly the Web servers that support the Secure Sockets Layer protocol present a digital certificate checking the server identity to Web browsers that request the connection. The Windows Internet Explorer will display certificate error warnings if the digital certificate is not verified by a third- party authority or if the date and time of the certificate are not correct. This error can be resolved with two methods:

1) Updating the date and time

2) Installing the digital certificate if the server is using a “self-signed” certificate.

However, this is not a major issue it can be fixed quickly and easily.

1) Fix Date and Time

  • Click on the Windows computer clock situated in the bottom right corner of your desktop taskbar. Click on the “Change Date and Time Settings” item.
  • Click on the “Date and Time” tab. And click on the “Change Date and Time” button.
  • Now click on the correct date on the calendar by using the left and right arrow keys to adjust the date. Then click the time control underneath the clock display and click the hour and minute entries and type in the correct time. Click the “OK” button to save the settings.

This will set the date and time and hopefully solve the problem but if not then you must be facing this due to the second situation.

2) Install the digital certificate if the server is using “self-signed certificate”

  • Click “Continue to the website (not recommended)” in the message box that appears. And click the “Certificate Error” button.
  • Next click on “View Certificates” in the appeared window. Click on the “Install Certificate” button. And click “Yes” to confirm that you want to install the certificate.
  • And lastly, connect to the website through Internet Explorer to check the issue is resolved or not.
